ClassyMusicSnob Akasha is a band that has a really unique guitar tone, mixed with some Marduk worship, piercing vocals and fantastic melodies and harmonies. This album is pure hate, however there is beauty to that hate and it is glorious to listen to. 4.5/5 Favorite track: Sepulchral Oath.

Pauline Zipser So many fantastic songs on here. One of the better black metal offerings of the past couple years. Riffs coated with more riffs, varied songs, up tempo. Almost too many great ideas inside this monster. Stalwart!!!!! Favorite track: Enthroned In Catacombs.

"AKASHA first appeared last June with the “violent and chaotic hypnosis” of the “undeniably exsanguinated” debut EP Consuming the Soul. Leech quickly followed that up in September with Vibrations of Blood and Hate, a split with True Appalachian Black Metal project Unrest, his half of which was a blackened d-beatdown filled with “inexorable hammering of sharp, lacerating chords that might as well be a barbed wire-wrapped stick, gouging your eardrums into bloody holes” that managed to be “catchy and devastating all at once, which not many can pull off."

Now comes AKASHA’s first full-length, Canticles of the Sepulchral Deity. If the first two AKASHA releases were devastating – and make no mistake, they absolutely fucking were – then Canticles is straight up scorched earth black metal. It’s also a major progression in terms of the band’s sound. Leech’s songwriting here is more diverse and features numerous tempo shifts and variances in mood, as well as the occasional foray into slightly more death metal (“Enthroned in Catacombs”) and chaotic hardcore (“Worship at the Threshold of Her Womb”) influenced territory. The production is a bit more polished as well, but only just – like the difference between using 30-grit or 60-grit sandpaper to remove paint from a doorframe. The end results are just as brilliantly, violently enthralling as Wrest’s typically amazing cover art."
